Preparing for Class

  • Try not to eat for 2-3 hours prior to class
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing – natural fibres, like cotton, are preferable
  • Bare feet are best (you will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the studio)
  • Leave your phone in the car
  • You may find sitting on the floor more comfortable with the use of a folded blanket or cushion (if there is a particular cushion that works for you, bring it with you to class)
  • We have mats, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer
  • Avoid wearing perfume to class as it may aggravate others' allergies
  • If possible, be a few minutes early to class to begin the centring process and avoid disrupting others

Making the Most of Your Experience

  • The limitations of the body should always be respected – work around your weaknesses and never force a stretch
  • If you have any injuries or physical issues, please discuss with the teacher prior to class
  • Women, because Yoga can strongly affect the various systems of the body, it can pay to be mindful of your practice during the heaviest part of your menstruation – check with your teacher whether there are certain poses (such as inverted poses or breath of fire) that you should substitute with a gentler alternative
  • Please check with your health care practitioner before starting any new diet or exercise
  • We recommend taking any class three times before you make up your mind about it (the first time it's all new, the second time you think it was easier the first time and the third time you recognise the rhythm of the class and warm to the teacher, so you have a chance to enjoy it)
  • Remember that Yoga is strictly non-competitive
